For five years, no American runner could beat him at any distance over a mile. But at the age of 24, with his best years still ahead, long-distance runner Steve Prefontaine finally lost. Driving alone at night after a party, Prefontaine crashed his sports car, putting a tragic, shocking end to the life and career of one of the most influential, accomplished runners of our time.

After 25 years they have it down pat. Half run in costume, Awards 10 deep. Lots of food, beer, hot dogs and food. Great post party with live music. All proceeds goes to the running club to help younger runners in school. Awards for costumes every year, sells out early August so hurry for a great time and race.
My favorite thing about this races is running through St. Pete. I feel there should have been water at the finish line, we should not have had to walk further to get a cold water. Kipsang Sets World Record at Berlin Marathon 9/29/2013 - New York Times Wilson Kipsang of Kenya set a world record of 2:03:23 at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday. The previous record was held by Patrick Makau of Kenya at 2:03:38.
